Borris House is the ancestral home of the McMorrough Kavanaghs, High Kings of Leinster. It is one of the few Irish estates that can trace its history back to the royal families of ancient Ireland. The estate covers over six hundred and fifty acres of walled private park and woodlands
Originally an important castle guarding the River Barrow, Borris House was rebuilt in 1731 and altered in the early 1800's by the architectural dynastic family, The Morrisons. The Morrisons, chiefly Richard and William, are also responsible for the alterations and additions to Kilruddery in Co Wicklow, Carton House in Co Kildare, Fota House in Co Cork and Shelton Abbey, Co Wicklow.

WEDDINGS:
Considered to be one of the finest houses in Ireland, Borris House is stunningly elegant and has great charm: with family portraits, antique furniture, crackling log fires and warm hospitality.
The beautifully restored Georgian chapel of St. Moling, which is nestled in the North garden, is also available for wedding ceremonies. What could be better then to simply stroll from the chapel through the gardens to your reception where you and your guests will be greeted with a glass of champagne!
In the house, the reception rooms are spacious and stunningly enhanced with decorative plasterwork dating back from 1812. Smaller intimate receptions of 70 or less can be held in the Dining Room while larger parties can be held in the Ballroom Wing. This large room with French doors that open out on to the gardens is rustic in charm with its high-beamed ceilings, natural stonewalls and an open fireplace. It is impressive in scale but charming in atmosphere and its natural elegance lends itself beautifully to any reception and is the perfect room to turn into your own personal dream setting. The Ballroom Wing can accommodate a maximum of 150 on round tables and 180 on trestle tables. Weddings over 200 can be accommodated in a marquee in the gardens around the house which also provide some stunning locations for your wedding photographs.
Viewings of the house can be arranged by appointment only.Hours of work
